Originally built in 1980 on a wooden truss platform made of 2X8 perimeter frame and 4×4 corner posts supporting castors, this 18′ x 7′ table holds a 4 lanes wide track traversing across that space more than four times! Built to 1/64 scale, it uses a hybrid of Aurora lock and pin and AFX track. Many rare track turns from 6 to 15 radius are built on custom elevations to create 4 equal lap time lane- but with those time achieved in different ways for each lane. Thus, each lane creates a unique experience and a challenge not to get distracted by where you competitor can go faster than you-but patience is rewarded when you can take them too deep into a curve where you have the advantage. The combination creates the track we all dreamt of building and racing as kids. Controller stations are located at four points around the table allow drivers to spot other drivers and each is equipped with grabbers to reach for cars that have crashed. Beneath the table are partial storage platforms creating usable storage space. Average lap times are around 22-25 seconds, with race winning times closer to 15 seconds. The best drivers can achieve a 13 second lap, though the babysitter managed a 12 second lap oncego figure! Adding to the fun is a HO scale train running around the perimeter of the table, complete with bridges, tunnels, a small yardjust enough to distract some racers! Over the years of parties and races, guests have brought many additions and helped landscape section of the track. Today it has many special features including the Loch Ness monster, the Dutch Maid Motel with nude sunbathers enjoying the pool, farms, abandoned factories, a drive-In and grandstand and much much more to discover. Featuring custom built transformers and rectifiers, reversing switches for each lane with 60 ohm Parma controllers, smooth performance is assured. Incorporated is a power cutoff “Christmas tree” countdown light which when activated, cuts power to all lanes, insuring fair starts for everyone. Two computers provide individual timers for every lane, allowing racing against the clock as well as each other. The computer can also track total number of laps in each lane and if a sub 10 second lap is ever achieved, will track lap times by. 24 cars and 2 train sets are included. This will require a car trailer or custom movers. It will roll and strap down without being disassembled which makes transport easier but will limit the area that it can be moved in to. The highest point of the set up is the top of the Christmas Tree starting light which is 6′ tall. The other 3 corners are various heights depending on the landscape; lowest part of the table is 36 which is a flat platform for parts, drinks, etc. Thousands of dollars and hours have gone in to making this set up what it is over the past 40 years.
